Made
up of a team of professionals who have been living in
Peru for at least eight years and with a great deal of
experience in setting up and running up publications,
the Conozca Peru organization has been working for two
years, developing products linked to Peruvian culture
and the tourism industry in general.
In
March 1997, the firm published the first issue of Conozca
Peru magazine to promote the many tourist destinations
of this beautiful country. The publication features a
wide range of articles on Peru, most of which can be found
on the Internet.
In
1998, our organization launched special issues that took
part in a series of trade fairs, including the Salon Mondiale
du Tourisme, held in March in Paris, and the World Travel
Market, held in November in London.
Among
our activities linked with tourism and culture, in late
1997 our organization presented Lima City Hall with a
proposal to revamp the old city center, declared the Heritage
of Mankind by UNESCO in 1996. In February 1998, the Municipality
gave the plan the go-ahead, starting up the program dubbed
The City Museum. This initiative involved installing large-scale
reproductions of paintings by Peruvian artists on the
side walls of buildings in the old quarter, with backing
from the most important firms and institutions in Peru.
Due to their size and quality, these paintings have definitely
contributed to embellishing the walls of these aging Lima
buildings.
Despite
the fact the program is still in an initial phase, the
plan was presented to take part in Peru's most prestigious
business competition, the Business Creativity Prize, which
is sponsored by some of the country's most important institutions
and organized by the Peruvian University of Applied Sciences
(UPC). The program earned an honorable mention in its
category.
As
part of the main aim of our organization, to publicize
the tourist attractions of this picturesque country which
is doted with such unique features, we have made available
the most complete web page on tourism and culture developed
in Peru to date. We are convinced it will be the best
and most useful tool to enable visitors to get to know
the country, enjoy it and decide to come and visit.
At
the same time, the 1998 Profile of the Foreign Tourist
provides information on the most widely visited spots,
the length of stay, money spent and satisfaction, as well
as the communication channels used by tourists to find
about the different destinations
