The telephone service of Ecuador, (in the hands of the state) present some difficulties, in certain occasions communication with the exterior (more often with Central America) could be complicated and take longer than usual.

In each city there is a long-distance and telex office (EMETEL) from where you could make your calls to any part of the world. In some occasions the waiting time to place your call can be longer. It is a bad decision to make calls from your hotel, rates for the United States and Europe calls are very expensive, even though they have a reduction starting at 7 pm.
