There is
no need to present a vaccine certificate to visit Ecuador, but
for prevention you could get a vaccine against diphtheria, tetanus,
yellow fever, poliomyelitis or hepatitis.
The illness that affects more is a slight diarrhea to avoid this
bothering illness you could take some precautions.
*Drink only boiled water or bottled. Avoid drinking water from
the faucet.
*Do not consume raw vegetables or dairy products like cheese,
yogurt and milk, also ice or ice cream of a doubtful origin because
they could be made from faucet water.
*Clean your hands before having your meals.
In case you get sick from this disease we recommend drinking a
lot of liquids and rest. If find it necessary go to the nearest
health center.
Another sickness that affects you in the rocky mountain range
of Ecuador is the one called illness of the highlands or soroche,
consequence of the atmospheric low pressure, that comes with headaches,
nausea and a decrease of blood pressure. Eventhough there is not
a cure for soroche, you could avoid it following these tips:
*During the first 24 hours do not take long walks, carry heavy
backpacks or suitcases.
*Don't get too tired the first day. Rest and avoid heavy foods
and alcoholic beverages, because the process of digestion is longer
in high altitude cities.
The strong rays from the sun (that come down vertically) could
be another risky factor for travelers.
A hat, sunglasses, sun protector and the precaution of not exposing
yourself too long in the sun are enough to avoid getting sunburns
or burns.
