With a bit
of care and precaution your walk to the public squares, streets
and avenues will be a grateful experience, in which you could
contemplate the deep blue sky of Quito or the coastal scent of
Guayaquil.
In your wondering
through the cities of Ecuador have always with you a copy of your
passport and air ticket. We recommend you to take only the necessary
cash and be careful with your belongings, because Quito and Guayaquil
(like every city in the world) are not far from acts of delinquency.
There are
many ways to move around in Quito. Units that offer taxi services
count with taximeters and are registered in the town hall; prices
are very affordable, then it is a good option.
And there
is also a great number of buses, which cover specific routes and
could be boarded at every corner, you just need to read the sign
located in the front of the vehicle to know where its going.
This style
of urban transport offers two classes of service: the "popular"
and the "especial". The difference is in the price of
the ticket, the condition of the vehicle and the comfort of the
trip.
Additionally
the city counts with a trolley bus. That functions from monday
through friday from 5 am until midnight saturday, sundays and
holidays from 6 am until 10 pm. The price is a bit higher than
the "especial" service but the advantage is that it
is safer. In the rush hours the units are full.
Another alternative
to go over the streets of Quito is renting a car in the many existing
agencies in the city. This service has a high price though. In
most cases it results more convenient to rent a taxi for hours.
In the coastal
city of Guayaquil, the situation is very similar even though there
is no trolley bus and taxis don't have meters, reason why prices
are arranged before boarding the vehicle. In order to avoid being
ripped off , you should find out (in your hotel or place of trust)
the approximate prices of services, that will allow you to negotiate
with the driver.
