Shades of
modernity in the borders of a mighty and winding river. Agitation
and hustle in the avenues, in the factories and commercial stores,
in the pier that borders the waters of the pacific. Constant movement
in a colorful big city, that catches you by its febrile rhythm
and its seductive nights.
Warm, humid,
attractive and cosmopolitan coastline. That is Guayaquil,
the city spoiled by the Pacific Ocean and the Guayas river, a
giant and dark torrent in which globetrotters ships and swaying
canoes sail, that seem extracted of the time of myths and legends.
And it is
not surprising to hear the drama of Guayas, a brave indigenous
leader, who in his eagerness of not falling into the hands of
the Spanish conquerors, decided to kill his wife, Quil, before
giving himself to the waters of the river. The names were joined.
A city was baptized.
That happened
a long time ago, now, the history is different, the metallic beats
of the factories and refineries, the sirens of the boats that
anchor in the port and the din of the recording boxes of their
commercial and financial centers have turned Guayaquil,
in the economic heart of the country and in the most populated
city of Ecuador.
Not only modernity
is breathed in Guayaquil. There is another calm
and bucolic semblance that is in the squares, the museums, and
the old Barrio de Las Peñas, with paved streets and wooden
houses. The town of guayas will never stop surprising you; you
can be sure of that.
