The
marine breeze, the cawing of the birds and perhaps the distant
roar of a sea lion, could become frequent companions in your excursions
to the Galapagos.
In
the whole archipelago you can find 54 points that can be visited
by the tourists, but it is necessary to count with the presence
of an official guide. To sail, to disembark and to walk, that
is the mechanics to know these
islands
of the Pacific, that offer the travelers the possibility of entering
contact with diverse species that because of the lack of natural
predators do not feel fear before the proximity of man.
Santa
Cruz:
It is the most populated island of the Galapagos and second
in size. On it you will find the Scientific
Station Charles Darwin (1964), in which appears information
of the islands. In the deposit of giant turtles the visitors can
approach and take colorful pictures.
You
can also visit the Tubos de Lava,
solidified lava tunnels, the Crocker Hill,
a natural watchtower of 860 meters that allow you to observe the
vegetation and the Reserva Tortuga,
place in which these heavy animals are in absolute freedom.
Plaza
Sur: Hundreds of sea lions, terrestrial iguanas, birds
that nest in cliffs and a cactus forest, turn this small island
of 13 hectares, in an interesting destination.
Santiago:
Volcanic landscapes, seals, flamencos and sparrow hawk, are more
than enough reasons for you to visit the Sullivan
Bay, the Bucanero creek, the
Espumilla beach and the Egas
port, that are part of this island.
Isabela:
It is the greatest island of the Galapagos. Which
has an extension of 4600 squared kilometers. Its volcanic activity
is interesting and places of particular interest are: the Cerro
Azul (1690 ms), the Wolf (1645
ms), Darwin (1280 ms), the Alcedo
(1097 ms) and Santo Tomas
(1490 ms.); in addition, the island has nonflying cormorants,
penguins, flamingos, giant turtles and iguanas.
Floreana:
The whalers of the 18th Century used to leave the mail in this
island. In Punta Cormoran
- one of its disembarkation ports- you can find a pretty lagoon
inhabited by flamingos. Also a semi-submerged volcanic cone can
be appreciated, it is named La Corona del
Diablo, suitable site for diving.
Española:
Its main attractive are birds like the albatross of the Galapagos.
It is possible to observe small lizards and sea iguanas.
San
Cristobal: It's the second most populated of the Galapagos.
In the port Baquerizo Moreno you can visit the museum of the Franciscans
and climb the Rock Leon Dormido,
to obtain a complete panorama of the zone.
