Only 3 percent of the archipelago is inhabited with a population of more than 12 thousand people. The populated areas are Puerto Ayora (Santacruz), Puerto Baquerizo Moreno (San Cristóbal), Puerto Villamil (Isabela) and Puerto Velasco (Floreana) and the Baltra Island, occupied by the Ecuadorian armed forces.

From January until June the weather is hot and humid. Higher temperatures of 30º centigrade and more present in March. In these months it rains enough, 70 mm3 per month. The time changes from July to December. Days become fresh and present a fine rain. In September temperatures descend to 19º centigrade. On the other hand, the temperature average during the year is 18º centigrade.
