The Ecuadorian
territory is covered all the way north-south by the Mountain range
of the Andes that form the called "avenue of the volcanos",
where it is possible to climb the majestic Chimborazo, volcano
located in the county of the same name, surrounded by the moor,
an ideal area for long walks and the practice of mountain cycling.
The tenth
part of the territory of the country, that is to say 27,000 square
kilometers, is moor or is covered with dry vegetation, characterized
by pads and gramineous plants.
The National Park Cotopaxi, besides being one of the favorite
places for the "andinistas", is a privileged corner
of the nature for the beauty of its lagoons and big moors. Very
close it is the National Area of Recreation El Boliche.
The Ecuadorian
east dazzles for its fierce beauty. The basin of the Napo river
has an extension of 1,400 kilometers and its ecosystem is considered
as one of the richest habitats in the world. The rivers, lakes,
currents and swamps of the Amazon, are the home of thousands of
species. In this area live more than 1000 species of birds, what
turns this place into the paradise of the "birdwatcher."
One can also
visit the Reserve of Fauna Production of Cuyabeno, with its 655,000
hectares of incredible biological diversity. El Salto de San Rafael
-the highest cascade in the country, where the fall is of 145
meters- is located in this region.
And for those
that challenge the nature, amid the exuberant forest will find
the active volcano Reventador. It takes at least three days to
reach the summit, in which one can observe the fumaroles, indicative
of its activity.
The nights
are ideal to navigate in canoe and to discover the reddish gleams
of the caymen eyes. And although heat is excessive, very few dare
to take a bath in the amazon waters, because there are pirañas,
a species that doesn't attack the man unless there is blood around.
In Ecuador,
the country located in the middle of the world, the nature is
contradictory. In some places it is barren and lonely moor; and,
in other, greenery tangles and gigantic trees, but is always unforgettable.
