The vegetation consists of gramineous adapted to the cold weather.
The frailejones forest is the most remarkable thing in the reserve.
The Aliso is another specie that grows in this area, mainly, in
the higher zones of Canyacu and Huarmayacu, in the sector of La
Carbonera.
The romerillo
and the colorado are also important to accumulate rain water.
The chuquiragua,typical bush of the moors, grows in this higher
area. Medicinal plants as the chilca, the mortiño, the
sigse, the sangre de grado, the dormidera and the sunto grow here
too.
The lagoons
of El Angel are characterized by the abundance of rainbow trouts.
There are some species introduced in Ecuador that after some years
displaced the preñadilla.
In the lagoons
of El Voladero, Crespo and Curiquingue, different species of birds
as dotted ducks, moor doves and patillos can be observed.
Rabbits, wolves
and deer are the mammals that inhabit this ecological reserve.
